Bifocal
When we reach middle age we all start to suffer from presbyopia. This very often means that it becomes necessary to have two pairs of spectacles, one for distance vision and the other for close work. Due to life styles, work and hobbies it is not always convenient to keep changing spectacles.
Bifocals combine both distance and reading prescriptions into one lens. They have a dividing line to make the transition from distance into reading.
Varifocal Lenses (or Progressive Lenses)
Varifocals, or progressive lenses as they are sometimes referred to, are similar in concept to bifocals.
They combine both distance and reading prescriptions into one lens. Unlike bifocals they do not have a dividing line as the prescription is blended. This blending not only enhances the focusing range of your prescription but, without a dividing line, improves the appearance of the spectacles.
Thin and Light
Lens technology has advanced, enabling thinner lenses for all prescriptions and lighter lenses to provide greater comfort.
Scratch Resistant
A hard coating will help protect the lens from scratches, making them tough and durable.
Reflection Free
Originally developed for cameras and binoculars, the technology is now widely available to improve the performance and appearance of spectacle lenses. This coating is applied to lenses under stringent conditions in a vacuum. The result is a lens that looks almost invisible and therefore improves the appearance of your spectacles. As far as the wearer is concerned the coating improves vision particularly when using a computer or driving at night. Once you have seen and enjoyed the benefits of an anti reflection coating you will never be without it again!
Polarised Lenses
The polarised lens is perfect for eliminating glare and preventing eye strain in situations of intense sunlight. The polarised lens is ideal for driving on wet roads or for sports such as fishing, skiing and sailing.
Light Sensitive Lenses (or Photochromic Lenses)
These lenses are sensitive to ultra violet light and turn to a darker shade when subjected to UV light.
Generally available in either Grey or Brown they provide a comfortable tint for every day wear and can also be used for sunglasses in all but very bright conditions.
