Phillips Opticians Company History

Phillips Opticians was established in 1922. The first practice was opened in Pontywaun and focused on providing a highly personalised service. Drawing upon the formula of service and quality, Phillips continued to successfully expand its operations in South Wales.

Today, Phillips Opticians is a limited company of five practices located throughout the South Wales valleys and employing over 30 staff comprising Ophthalmic opticians, Dispensing opticians, lab technicians and a large support staff.

Over the years, some things like the equipment we use has changed but the ethos of service to the community is still the same. You will find that Phillips Opticians presents a friendly face when you visit us. Apart from working in the area we also live here and are all very much a part of the communities we serve. We supply a full range of optometric services including NHS and Private eye examinations, retinal photography the Welsh Assembly sponsored Welsh Eye Care Examination and PEARs (Primary Eyecare Acute Referral scheme) for people with acute eye problems.

If you need spectacles or contact lenses then being independent opticians we are free to advise you on the best frames and lenses to suit your eyes. These can be measured using the VisiOffice, our bespoke personalised lens dispensing system.
